STARBASE Portland is located on the Portland Air National Guard Base (PANG), home of the 142nd Fighter Wing.
STARBASE Portland began serving students in the Portland Metro area in 1994 and proudly serves 2,500 fifth grade students per year, offering 25-hours of hands-on, exemplary STEM curriculum.
P.A.N.G is the protection base for the Northwest and has multiple F-15 jets ready all the time to complete this very important mission. Students visiting the STARBASE program are given a tour of the jets as they learn the principles of flight. Occasionally, students will receive a visit from a working robot used by EOD and meet the team that uses the robot to accomplish their mission.
STARBASE Portland has developed a robust outreach program in an attempt to inspire as many students as possible. STARBASE conducts an after-school program in various local middle schools, as an extension to the 5th grade 25-hour curriculum. Summer Academies are offered each year to local 3rd through 8th grade students. The STARBASE staff attends school science fairs and local STEM events, bringing STEM equipment and activities to engage and entertain future STEM professionals. Our mission is to empower every student to explore STEM and keep them current with the quickly evolving world we live in today.
