Mr. Math

Executive Director STARBASE Oregon

Hello, my name is Mr. Math and of course I love math, and more importantly hands-on learning!
STARBASE has changed my view of education. Aside from Math, Technology is another passion of mine. I enjoy video games, flying drones, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D printing. I wish I was given the opportunity to attend a program like this when I was in the 5th grade!

Outside of teaching, I spend most of my time with my wife, two daughters and two pugs. Born and raised in Oregon, I have had the pleasure and opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Northwest and
activities like snowboarding, camping, hiking, rock crawling, off-roading, riding quads, and basketball.

When I am not hanging with my family and spending time enjoying hobbies, my wife and I own a bakery that has been operating for over 10 years and is a big passion of ours! We hope to pass it down to our kids one day!

Well, that’s a little about me. I can't wait to meet you and introduce you to STEM lessons that have sparked my excitement about hands-on learning all over again!

Mrs. Kinetic

Deputy Director

Hello, my name is Mrs. Kinetic!

I’ve been with STARBASE for over 8 years now, and I love it more and more every year! Because of STARBASE, I learned that science can be fun! You can do anything if you stay dedicated and keep trying. I love experimenting with chemistry the most, but I also love Computer Aided Design and Robotics!  When I am not teaching at STARBASE, I am usually spending time with my husband, my son, and our two big crazy dogs! We spend a lot of time outside. Living in the Pacific Northwest is the best! We go hiking, swimming, biking, or just go exploring! I also love to cook, read, and play card games!

I am passionate about sharing my love for STEM and building confidence in students of all ages! There is nothing you can’t do here at STARBASE if you show up and do your best!

Mrs. Atoms

Instructor | Curriculum Lead

Hi! My name is Mrs. Atoms.

I’ve been teaching at STARBASE since 2013. My favorite thing about STARBASE is seeing students’ eyes light up when they discover something new, or watching them jump up and down when they finally complete a difficult engineering or programming challenge successfully.  I love that STARBASE lets kids actually become scientists and engineers, while using math and technology to solve problems and create cool things. I also love getting to know so many creative and curious future world-changers.

I love learning new things about science at STARBASE but if I’m not there I’m probably homeschooling my kids, or leading kids’ programs at my church, or going on outdoor adventures with my family, or gardening, or playing guitar. I have a lot of interests, I wear a lot of hats, and I have a lot to be thankful for! STARBASE is one of those things!”

Dr. Design

Instructor | Design & Fabrication

Hello, my name is Dr. Design!

I joined the STARBASE team in 2018, after a long career as designer and teacher of Art and Design. I love the creative hands-on lessons we teach at STARBASE, and believe that students learn best by seeing, hearing, and doing.

In my free time I make paper-cut art, read loads of books, and walk in the woods. I also like cooking and baking for my grown kids. Swedish meatballs and cinnamon rolls are their favorites.

Dr. Discovery

Instructor

When I'm not at Starbase I'm usually playing with my toddler son Enzo or going on nature walks with my son and husband. I got to spend the last 13 years teaching mostly 5th graders as a classroom teacher. I’m very glad to join the team at STARBASE and teach science everyday!  In my free time, I paint pictures and read non-fiction books about history and travel. Currently, I'm reading about life on the International Space Station and what the Earth looks like from space.

Mrs. Molecule

Instructor

Hi, my name is Mrs. Molecule!

I love learning new things which is why I love STARBASE so much! I attended STARBASE when I was a 5th grader, and now I get to help new students learn about STEM. Before I came to STARBASE I worked at a bakery, and I got to learn a lot about food science. (I think science that you can eat is the best kind!) I grew up in a big family with 6 siblings. I have 3 sisters and 3 brothers!  love baking and cooking, going on adventures with my husband, and reading lots of books in my free time.

Professor Particle

Instructor

Hi! I’m Professor Particle!

I have been teaching Science my whole adult life! First at Outdoor School for 2 years, then at middle school in Beaverton for 12 years and now at STARBASE - I love helping kids connect the dots and learn the science behind why things happen. I am also the proud mom of two wonderful kids who love doing science experiments with me at home in our kitchen.

Baking, cooking and gardening are where I spend most of my non-work, non-mom time. When summer rolls around you can catch me reading books in the sunshine, swimming, camping and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest ecosystem.
